Jason Morphew started life in a mobile home in Pike County, Arkansas. Reviewing Morphew’s debut collection dead boy, The Washington Post says Morphew’s “edginess and sharp intelligence make the poems pop.” His writing has appeared inThe Daily Beast, Los Angeles Review of Books, Seneca Review, and other places. As a singer-songwriter Morphew has released albums with Ba Da Bing, Max, Brassland, and Unread Records. Eject City is his second full-length collection of poems.

Sorry for My Resurrection
It really hurt my stepfather
when I fell asleep
while hunting
and he had to let a turkey live
because it was near my body
covered in leaves
hands folded
lying on my back
what the turkey
and my motherfucker didn’t know
was they were at my funeral
and their disappointment
wasn’t that I wasn’t theirs
for eating or to eat them
but that I was only briefly dead
unshot jerkoff Jesus
soon again would greet them.
